With few exceptions, watch strap manufacturers chose Corfam® straps for their sport watches and dress watches of the 60s and 70s. The only large exception was that Tropic or other rubber brands were used for most dive watches.

Today’s rally straps draw their inspiration from the Corfam® straps of the 60s and 70s, to the point that many try to point out their resemblance to Corfam®. There is only one true Corfam®. Originally manufactured by DuPont in the 60s and 70s, Corfam® was a failure in the shoe market primarily due to its expense which became higher than that of leather. The watch strap market, where Corfam® was successful and popular, was insufficient to support a company the size of DuPont. There were neither as many people to wear them nor did they use as much material as a pair of shoes. DuPont sold its process for making Corfam® for shoes to a Polish company and shut down its manufacturing for watch strap grade Corfam®, a much thinner material. Corfam® was used for making watch straps through approximately 1974.
Today’s Corfam® straps are made by Proprietor William Shaine who has been a watch collector and strap manufacturer and retailer for many years.
